Getting Started with FluxType Pro

Everything you need to know about Pro - from higher AI allowances and 100 local Whisper languages to searchable history and BYOK providers.

What Pro Unlocks

FluxType's free tier gives you solid, private voice dictation powered by local Whisper models plus a built-in AI modes preview. Pro takes that foundation and expands it significantly: more languages, better local accuracy, higher AI allowances, Custom Instructions, BYOK providers, searchable history, exports, and features designed for people who rely on dictation throughout their workday.

Here's what you get with a Pro subscription:

  • 100 local Whisper languages.Dictate in English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic, Hindi, and dozens more. Whisper's multilingual training means high accuracy across languages, not just English.
  • Whisper Large v3. The most capable local model, weighing in at approximately 2.9 GB. It delivers noticeably better accuracy, especially for complex vocabulary, accented speech, and noisy environments.
  • Cloud API support. Connect your own OpenAI or Deepgram API keys for cloud-grade transcription when you need maximum accuracy or real-time streaming.
  • AI formatting allowance. Turn raw dictation into polished writing with higher FluxType AI limits, plus saved Custom Instructions when you need reusable workflows.
  • Searchable local history. Keep unlimited local history, search across entries, filter by date or task, and export to TXT, CSV, or Markdown.
  • Real-time streaming. See your words appear as you speak when using Deepgram Nova-3 BYOK.
  • 100 active vocabulary terms. Teach FluxType the names, brands, acronyms, and domain-specific terms you use most.

The BYOK Model

FluxType Pro includes a higher FluxType AI allowance and also supports a bring-your-own-key approach for power users. When you connect an OpenAI, Gemini, or Deepgram API key, requests use your own provider account and are billed directly by that provider.

This model gives you the flexibility to use cloud transcription when you need it - for languages that perform better with cloud models, or in scenarios where streaming accuracy is critical — while keeping full control over your data relationship with the provider. You can switch between local and cloud models at any time. Translation to English currently uses local Whisper only; OpenAI and Deepgram cloud models are transcription-only in FluxType.

Pricing

Pro is available at two price points, both designed to be straightforward:

  • Monthly: $6.99 per month. Cancel anytime with no commitment.
  • Annual: $4.99 per month, billed annually at $59.88. A 29% savings over the monthly plan.

Both plans include everything — every language, every model, every feature. There are no usage-based charges for local transcription. Pro includes a monthly hosted AI allowance with percentage-based usage visibility; after that, local raw dictation keeps working and BYOK remains available.

Setting Up Pro

Getting started with Pro takes just a few minutes. Here's the process:

  1. Create an account. Open FluxType and sign up with your email. This is the only step that requires an account — the free tier works without one.
  2. Subscribe. Navigate to Settings and choose your plan. Payment is handled securely through Polar.sh. Your Pro features activate immediately.
  3. Download a model. Head to the Models section in Settings. We recommend starting with Whisper Small (~466 MB) for a balance of speed and accuracy. If your hardware supports it, try Large v3 for the best results.
  4. Configure cloud APIs (optional). If you want to use OpenAI, Gemini, or Deepgram, add your API key in the Cloud Providers section. FluxType will validate the key and show available models.
  5. Set your languages. Choose your transcription language for normal dictation, and choose a separate translation language when you use local speech-to-English translation.

Tips for Best Results

To get the most out of FluxType Pro, keep a few things in mind:

  • Use a decent microphone. A dedicated USB microphone or a quality headset will produce better results than a built-in laptop mic. Whisper is remarkably good at handling noise, but clean audio always wins.
  • Speak naturally.FluxType works best when you speak at a natural pace with normal intonation. You don't need to slow down or over-enunciate.
  • Match the model to the task. Use the Base model for quick notes and the Large v3 or cloud API for important documents where accuracy is paramount.
  • Use AI modes deliberately. Keep Dictation raw for exact transcripts, Clean Dictation for light cleanup, Message for ready-to-send communication, Notes for structured capture, Prompt Builder for reusable AI prompts, and Custom Instructions for your saved repeatable workflows.

Start Dictating

FluxType Pro is built for people who use their voice as a primary input method — writers, professionals, developers, and anyone who types thousands of words a day. It's fast, it's private, and it works wherever you do.

If you're already using the free tier, upgrading to Pro is seamless. Your settings, hotkeys, and preferences carry over — you just get access to better models, more languages, and the tools that make dictation a genuine replacement for typing.
